In 1947, Pat Porter was born in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. Her father was an American citizen. Porter moved to the United States with her mother in 1951. Porter later graduated with a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and was elected into Michigan’s 12th House District in 1982, winning re-election in 1986 and 1990. Porter was elected Lieutenant Governor in 2014. Residing in Ann Arbor, she is a mother of three, a grandmother of five, and a great-grandmother of two.
