Alex Woodbridge was born in 1952 and grew up in Au Gres, Mich. She graduated from high school in 1970 and served as a nurse during the Vietnam War. Woodbridge attended medical school at Harvard University and graduated in 1979. In 1994, Woodbridge opened a private practice in Marquette. In 2010, Woodbridge helped advise the President on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. She has been married since 1995 and has three children and two grandchildren.
